Jacy Pitts, MS, RD, DSP, LD

Jacy Pitts is a prominent clinical dietitian who serves on Shepherd Spinal Center's clinical staff as well as on the clinical staff at the Atlanta Pediatric Nutrition Center and the Atlanta Center for Restorative Dentistry patient management team. Her primary focus is the modification of patient diets to provide adequate calories, protein, vitamins and minerals to optimize healing during and after surgical procedures. She continues to work with patients following the healing period to optimize their long-term health.

Jacy earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia in 2001 and her Master of Science in Nutrition from the University of Georgia in 2003. She is currently a registered and licensed dietitian in the State of Georgia, a member of the American Dietetic Association, and a member of the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group. She earned her board certification in Pediatric Nutrition in 2007 after accumulating many hours of field experience at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to covering the Technology-Dependent and Pediatric ICUs and the Outpatient Pulmonary Clinic there, she gained experience in a variety of other inpatient and outpatient settings. She worked closely with many families in the Technology-Dependent ICU to manage their children's nutrition regimens, which often included partial or full tube feedings.

Following her time at Scottish Rite, Jacy served as an oncology nutrition specialist at a nearby gynecologic oncology practice as well as at Kennestone Hospital's Radiation Oncology Department. Jacy worked very closely with patients who had problems eating or maintaining weight for a wide range of reasons, including mouth irritation or surgical trauma, loss of multiple teeth, loss of appetite, GI/malabsorptive conditions, and other side effects of chemoradiation. In 2008, Jacy served as the nutrition liaison for Chemoflage, Inc., an Atlanta-based monthly support group for women undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. She also served on the panel of speakers for Saint Joseph's Hospital's 2008 Annual Cancer Survivor Day.

Jacy has counseled numerous patients and written articles on nutritional support during oncology, pediatric nutrition topics including food allergies and obesity, brain and spinal cord injury, obesity/weight management, diabetes, and patients undergoing dental implant and restorative dental procedures.

Outside of work, Jacy enjoys all things related to cooking: recipes and cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, cooking shows and food demos, etc. She is also an avid reader. She lives in Smyrna, Georgia, with her daughter and husband, Joey.
