Education and Early Research

Dr. Mills began his academic journey at Oxford College of Emory University, earning an Associate in Arts degree before completing a Bachelor of Science at Emory University in Atlanta. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1980 — at just 23 years old.

Even before entering dental school, Dr. Mills was immersed in research. In high school, he won the Georgia state science fair multiple times for his projects on graft tissue compatibility and surgical adhesives. His early work with Dr. Ernest Hunt and Dr. Mariano LaVia explored immunological behavior in oral tissue — the kind of foundational science that still informs his regenerative work today.

Clinical Leadership

As the founder of the Atlanta Center for Restorative Dentistry, Dr. Mills has built a private practice centered on personalized, regenerative care. His focus is on comprehensive treatment planning, full-mouth reconstruction, and advanced dental implant therapy.

In addition to his clinical role, he leads the Advanced Dental Implant Studies group (ADIS), a distinguished educational collective where clinicians from across the country collaborate, study, and challenge one another. Under Dr. Mills’ leadership, ADIS has grown into an influential think tank, helping to shape the future of implantology through education, mentorship, and clinical innovation.

Dr. Mills was instrumental in developing the Summit on Advanced Dental Implants, an annual event where current and future leaders in dentistry gather to share research, techniques, and best practices.

Teaching and Educational Impact

For more than 30 years, Dr. Mills has served as a mentor and educator to thousands of dentists. He has taught at Emory University, Howard University, the Medical College of Georgia, and through programs he helped design — including the prestigious AAID MaxiCourse® and a three-year hospital-based residency at Emory Adventist Hospital, developed in partnership with Loma Linda University.

He also co-founded the Dental XP Online Implant Externship, a 280-hour clinical learning experience created in collaboration with Dr. Maurice Salama and hosted by NYU and Stony Brook Dental School.

His teaching is known for blending evidence-based science with real-world clinical practicality, inspiring a generation of implantologists to pursue excellence.

His personal collection includes both classical and contemporary works and serves as another outlet for his eye for detail and design.
